Farm Camp Minnesota as a program began because of sponsors who believe in the Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom mission: to increase agricultural literacy through K-12 education. We at Farm Camp Minnesota bring this mission one step closer with the goal of educating our youth, 5-12 graders, about the many possibilities within the agriculture industry. To do this, we have created a three step Farm Camp experience that really provides students a unique approach to career exploration.
Career Exploration with the Ag Career Videos
After students have learned through standards-based curriculum in the classroom and completed the hands-on Farm Camp experience, the final step is career exploration. Educators are provided career exploration materials from the Farm Camp Director that match the industry in which the students toured. These career videos from Lakeland PBS bring career exploration to the next level. Students can now hear directly from people in the industry to get a deeper understanding of the variety of careers in agriculture.
Watch the "Careers Beyond the Farm" Videos
The Ag Career Videos are titled, "Careers Beyond the Farm," and feature career paths in agriculture that defy stereotypical routes students and young adults may normally consider. This series features a 30 minute documentary and several career shorts to allow educators to tailor the footage to their students. Among those interviewed are engineers, maintenance personnel, processing technicians and many others.
A special thank you to Lakeland PBS (LBPS) for the multi-year partnership to create these web-short videos for classroom use and professional development for educators to cultivate awareness of the many career opportunities in Minnesota agriculture, helping today's students see themselves a part of agriculture in the future.
