Farm Camp Minnesota is a three step process that provides students with the opportunity to get an in person experience with a farm or agribusiness and explore agricultural careers. The first step provides an in-class learning through grade-specific, curriculum-based lesson plans that connect with the second step, a visit to a farm or agribusiness. Career exploration is the final step that helps them connect with the many opportunities available to them in the industry.
SAGE Academy’s Farm Camp Field Day
Educator Cari-Ana from SAGE Academy reached out to Farm Camp Minnesota to create an experience for her students to learn where their food comes from. A priority goal for this experience was to have the students meet a cow in person! Their school at SAGE Academy had a Farm to School grant with The Good Acre; Farm Camp Minnesota Director, Brandi Wulkan, was excited for them to make this full circle connection for the students.
About the Farm Camp Experience
On May 14, 2024 seven high school students from SAGE Academy from Prior Lake, Minnesota attended the Farm Camp Field Day experience. Students had the opportunity to visit The Good Acre in Falcon Heights and the Miron Dairy Farm near Hugo. Thanks to the Transportation Grant for making this Farm Camp Experience in-person possible!
About Miron Dairy
The Miron Dairy Farm has been in the family since 1887 near Hugo, Minnesota. The Miron family farms corn, soybeans and alfalfa to provide feed to their livestock in addition to the dairy cattle. Andrew Miron, part of the fifth generation of the family farm, shared stories and knowledge about the dairy farm with the students from SAGE Academy. This farm is no stranger to Farm Camp Minnesota. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to them for hosting many tours and sharing their experiences with students from throughout the cities and beyond!
