WHAT IS

FARM CAMP

Welcome to Farm Camp Minnesota! We understand that introducing a new educational experience like Farm Camp to your curriculum comes with questions—especially when planning for students or educators who haven’t participated in something like this before. Our goal is to provide a fun, hands-on learning environment that connects students with the world of agriculture in meaningful ways. Below, you'll find answers to some of the most common questions from educators and administrators considering Farm Camp for the first time.

Farm Camp Minnesota provides hands-on learning experiences that connect students with agriculture, food production, and natural resources. Students gain a deeper understanding of where their food comes from, the role of agriculture in their daily lives, and the variety of careers within the agricultural industry.

The duration of Farm Camp experiences can vary depending on the specific program. Most experiences are designed as half-day or full-day Farm Camps. Specific details will be discussed and planned based on your unique needs.

Farm Camp Minnesota as a whole is a free-to-you program that is funded by the generous support of the Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation. The only cost for educators and school districts is transportation. Thanks to some amazing donors, we also offer a grant that you can apply for once your Farm Camp is planned to help cover transportation costs!

Lunch arrangements vary by site. In most cases, students bring their own packed lunches.

Bathroom facilities vary by Farm Camp. Most agribusinesses will have a restroom that students will have access to. However, some farms have access to indoor restrooms, while others may not. This will be something that will be included in the planning process to ensure restrooms are planned for.

Farm Camp Minnesota welcomes students from schools across the state. For specific examples of recent school visits, please check out our blog to see an expanded list of previous Farm Camps and get ideas for planning your own.

The majority of Farm Camp sites do not offer concessions or souvenir shops. Our focus is on providing an educational experience. If there are any items available for purchase at a specific camp, this will be communicated in advance.

Safety is a top priority at Farm Camp Minnesota. While farm environments may have potential hazards such as machinery, animals, or allergens (e.g., hay, dust, certain crops), all activities are supervised, and safety protocols are in place. Please inform us of any student allergies or medical concerns during registration so we can make necessary accommodations.
