Metro Deaf School visits Len Busch Roses

Farm Camps are more than just a field trip. Each experience is customized for grade 5-12 classrooms throughout the state of Minnesota with the opportunity to witness agriculture in person and make connections with potential careers. This special Farm Camp experience was no different. Students from the Metro Deaf School got the opportunity to visit Len Busch Roses.

The three step process begins with students learning from standards-based, grade specific curriculum that establishes the foundation for the field trip, the second step of a Farm Camp. After the onsite or virtual farm or agribusiness visit, students explore the many career opportunities available in agriculture. As a result of this Farm Camp in Minneapolis, students have a 35.3% increase in understanding of how agriculture is used in their life!

About the Farm Camp Experience

On October 25, 2024 approximately 40 students from the Metro Deaf School attended a Farm Camp at Len Busch Roses in Minneapolis. During the experience, students were surprised to learn that many flowers are spray painted to be the colors that they are. Red poinsettias start out green!

Students really enjoyed their experience at the Len Busch Roses. They were surprised to learn about all of the piping for water in the greenhouses. During the Farm Camp experience, they also learned about temperature regulation in the greenhouses and how they can differentiate depending on the need for those specific plants.

My favorite part was learning about different flowers: like how long it takes to grow them, how long it takes to harvest them and what kind of bugs eat them
