Host a Successful Farm Camp

It is a good rule to not go over 25 students in a group. If students can’t hear you or see what you are referencing, they will lose focus.

Having a Welcome Introduction is important for setting expectations, sharing a little about your story and providing some “housekeeping” items (bathroom locations, Off-limit locations, do’s and don’ts on the farm, etc).

• If you have a lot to see, feel, smell, and explore, you may be able to have the Kindergartners and up really enjoy your site.
• Do you have a lot of equipment that is fun to look at, but there isn’t much for interaction with it? This sounds like a tour for older students.
• Does much of your operation need a little bit of explaining? Grades 4 and up is probably best.

Safety is our first priority in having a Farm Camp. Take into account the hazards on your farm. Only allow your visitors in the low hazards areas. If there are hazards, it is best practice to put up signage or barriers.

It is the responsibility of the Ag Host to have appropriate insurance or liability protection in place in case of injury. If you have questions about your policy, contact your insurance agent.
